biography

1979 born in London, UK
lives and works in Sydney, Australia

Huseyin Sami finished the first part of his education in Sydney, Australia as Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hons First Class) Sydney University 2000, followed by Master of Visual Arts Sydney University (Sydney Collage of Arts) in 2003. He works with the physicality of paint itself. His medium, subject and process, is an ever-evolving thesis on the possibilities and limitations of household paint. Through incessant experimentation, Sami has developed an ingenious repertoire of techniques and activities predicated on dealing with the ontology of painting. Besides many grants and residencies he has shown in several gallery solo and group exhibitions, among them notable institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia. Sami’s work is part of many public collections in Australia and New Zealand as well as private collections in Australia, Germany, UK, Japan and the USA.
