biography
1973 born in Rovaniemi, Finland
lives and works in Kuopio, Finland
Having studied also in Switzerland, Nanna Hänninen completed her studies at the University of Art and Design, Department of Photography, in Helsinki, Finland in 2002 (later part of the Helsinki Photo School). Winner 2012 of the Grand prize of the William Thuring Foundation by the Finnish Art Association and continuously granted from Finland since 1996, she showed her photographic work solo since 1996 mostly in Northern Europe. Hänninen’s work is part of several institutional and private collections such as Museum of Photography, Helsinki, Finland, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Winterthur, Switzerland, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris, France and private European and overseas collections. The aesthetically precise works themselves are tender and devoid of all superfluous requisites and effects. The result is a minimalist aesthetic image which opens a tremendously large associative space and confronts the viewer with his/her own memories and experiences.
Hänninen runs also an art-based consultancy, Neemo.
