Richard Fauguet’s work, mainly shown in galleries, Fracs and Chateauxs in France, is above all mental politics and a philosophy of life. Prix Champagne Henriot du Catalogue d’Artiste winner 2013, he defends his work against pigeonholing through continual permutations, and especially manages to avoid creating a “Fauguet brand”. Pop Art, Duchamp’s readymades, the great French masters, or Conceptual Art are not sufficient references – Fauguet always succeeds in outwitting everyone and eluding categorisation. His universe takes delight in blending the borrowings from high culture with popular cultures, mixes the genres and transposes the materials. “Making chic out of cheap” is his watchword.
