lives and works in Berlin

Jens Risch (b.1973, Rudolstadt, Germany), lives and works in Berlin. In 1993, he began studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach and moved to the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt am Main in the mid-1990s. In his application, he presented, among other things, a knotted hair of himself.

Jens Risch specializes in the art of knotting. Using materials such as hair, silk cord, cotton and hemp twine, he creates tiny works of art that are both aesthetically pleasing and tactile. His works are characterized by filigree structures and complex patterns that captivate the viewer. Each work unit is meticulously documented: his hours of work with his index cards, his places of work with the help of his photographs.

Risch has had solo exhibitions at Visasaterna, Milano (2018), Bischoff Projects, Frankfurt (2014 and 2011), Weißfrauen Diakonie Kirche, Frankfurt (2007), Forum der Frankfurter Sparkasse (2001). He also participated in several group exhibitions in France, Germany, Costa Rica, Switzerland and Italy. He is part of the collection of the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.
